Traveling wave tube is a key component used to amplify signals on satellites and has been a bottleneck problem in China's scientific and technological field for many years. Based on the interdisciplinary collaborative innovation platform established after the reform, the R&D team has overcome a series of technical difficulties and delivered more than 130 sets of traveling wave tubes for the Beidou system in the past five years, ensuring the smooth construction of the Beidou project.

During the 13th Five Year Plan period, facing the complex and ever-changing external environment, China has launched a series of "combination punches" for the reform of scientific and technological systems and mechanisms. Over the past five years, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics has empowered economic and social development through innovative technology transfer models.


 


Data shows that during the 13th Five Year Plan period, China's overall R&D expenditure has maintained double-digit growth. In 2019, the total R&D expenditure of the whole society reached 2.21 trillion yuan, an increase of 56.3% compared to 2015, ranking second in the world in total. Among them, the proportion of basic research funds exceeded 6% for the first time.
